The
Collie Club of Georgia, Inc. is composed of a group of individuals
who are, in varying combinations, breeders, fanciers, exhibitors
in AKC conformation or performance events and just owners or prospective
owners of Collies. All are welcome. Meetings are usually held
once a month. At these meetings the members discuss the breed,
things pertinent to the breed and the Club, plan shows, matches,
dinners or other activities, have training sessions on heath care,
grooming, show training for dog and for handler and sometimes
just to visit.
Some
members have been involved with the breed for many years, others
are fairly new, adding enthusiasm and energy to the group. Members
over the years have been involved with numerous activities from
tracking, obedience, agility, herding, therapy, rescue, as well
as conformation. All wholesome activities are encouraged involving
the breed, but none are required.
In
keeping with the purposes of the club, the main activity is our
shows which the club sponsors in the Fall as well as the Spring.
The Fall show is independently held and secretaried by a member
at Jim Miller Park in Marietta, Georgia in conjunction with the
Kennesaw Kennel Club, whereas the Spring is held in conjunction
with the Combined Specialties of Atlanta in Perry, Georgia.
Membership
in the past has included the whole state, as our name implies.
Our current active membership extends outward in all directions
from Metropolitan Atlanta. Persons interested in joining the Collie
Club of Georgia should contact our President, Millie
Meyer, for information. The Club's Code
of Ethics is required reading for those interested and must
be signed to join. It is also required to attend two meetings
before making application.
